Biography:

Sudhir Venkatesh is Professor of Sociology and African-American Studies. He is Director of the Charles H. Revson Fellowship Program. His research is based in urban communities. He has written Off-the-Books: The Underground Economy of the Urban Poor (2006) and American Project: The Rise and Fall of an Urban Ghetto (2000), both from Harvard University Press. He is the Editor of Youth, Globalization, and the Law (Stanford University Press, 2006). His articles have appeared in The American Prospect, American Journal of Sociology, SIGNS, and American Economic Review. He directed Dislocation, a documentary film on public housing that appeared on
PBS (www.dislocationfilm.com).
